Overall score

Cyprus is one of Europe's most underrated cycling destinations. The Troodos mountain range rises to nearly 2000m in the centre of the island, offering proper climbs on quiet roads — far less traffic than mainland Mediterranean rivals. The coast provides flat warm-up rides with sea views, while the forested highland roads around Platres and Kykkos Monastery reward those who climb. The climate is exceptional: virtually no rain from May through October, mild winters on the coast, and cool summers in the mountains. English is widely spoken (former British colony), the food is outstanding, and the cost of living is reasonable. Winter sun-seekers and spring classics fans both find exactly what they need here.
